Edward Gittins BA(HONS)

CHARTERED TOWN PLANNER

Edward Robert Gittins BA(Hons) DipTP FRTPI holds a BA Honours Degree in Geography from the University of Liverpool and a Diploma in Town Planning from the Regent Street Polytechnic, London, a Diploma in Town Planning and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from University, London. He was elected as a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1970 and a Fellow of the Institute in 1986.

He specialises in housing site identification, development potential surveys, planning appeal and enforcement cases and Local Plan related work. He has worked for nationally known volume builders to small firms, organisations and private individuals.

He was employed in the Planning Department of Essex County Council from 1965 to 1969 before taking up a Lectureship in Rural and Natural Resource Planning at the Polytechnic of the South Bank, London. In 1974, on Local Government re-organisation, he was appointed Assistant Borough Planner with Colchester Borough Council.

He has been active in Environmental Education and is a former Chairman of the RTPI Education Development Panel and the RTPI Accreditation Panel, which accredits all the recognised planning courses in the UK, Eire, Malaysia and Hong Kong. He has also served as External Examiner for the Post Graduate Courses at the University of Nottingham. He is currently Honorary Planning Advisor to the Essex Playing Fields Association.
